报告摘要:
Many of the discoveries in physics of the past fifty years, from quarks to the Higgs boson, have been made with larger and larger accelerators. While even larger accelerators have been proposed, physics is moving towards a 'post-accelerator' era of discovery. Instead of using raw power to smash atoms into pieces, we use atomic nuclei as sensitive detectors of rare events. I will briefly discuss massive neutrinos, dark matter, and the search for neutrino-less double beta decay. All of these searches require careful and detailed knowledge of the physics of atomic nuclei.
